Atari
Atari existed before there was a blueprint.
There were no established rules, no expectations for what games should be or how they should function. What existed was simple, direct, and often experimental — ideas taking shape in real time.
It was the starting point.
Games were reduced to their core elements. Movement, timing, and interaction without layers around them. What seems minimal now was, at the time, entirely new.
There was nothing to compare it to.
Every system, every title, added to a space that hadn’t yet been defined. What followed would build on it, refine it, and expand it — but this is where it began.
Atari didn’t follow an industry.
It came before one existed.
