The Dreamcast felt like it arrived from somewhere else.

It introduced ideas that didn’t fully belong to its time — online connectivity, built-in features, and a structure that pointed forward rather than staying grounded in what already existed.

It moved ahead of the moment.

There was a sense of direction to it. Systems were more connected. Experiences extended beyond the immediate session. What it introduced would later become standard, but here, it stood slightly apart.

It didn’t last long.

But what it left behind carried forward, reappearing in forms that felt more familiar years later. Its influence wasn’t always recognized at the time — only in retrospect.

The Dreamcast didn’t follow the future.
It arrived early.
